Black Friday eSIM 2026: What to Check in a Travel eSIM Deal
As of 10 October 2026. Black Friday falls on Friday 27 November, the day after US Thanksgiving (fourth Thursday in November, per 5 U.S. Code § 6103). Neither Simbye nor eSIM FOX had announced a Black Friday 2026 promotion on its website or blog (social media not checked), so we list no discounts or codes.
Simbye and eSIM FOX are Abroadmode partners. That changes none of the five checks.
Booked a Black Friday trip? You'll need data there. Black Friday eSIM deals lead with the percentage off, and it's rarely the most important number: in the worked example below (made-up numbers), 25% off still costs €3.75 per GB used, while no discount costs only €2.25.
Do you even need a travel eSIM?
Inside the EU plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, "Roam like at Home" charges home rates for calls, texts and data, within fair-use limits, per the European Commission. With enough included roaming data, a discount probably buys you nothing. More: guide to EU roaming in 2026.
1. What do a GB and a day cost after the discount?
Worked example, not an offer, made-up numbers:
| Plan A regular | Plan A, assumed 25% off | Plan B, no discount | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Data, validity | 10 GB, 15 days | 10 GB, 15 days | 5 GB, 7 days |
| Price | €20.00 | €15.00 | €9.00 |
| Per GB | €2.00 | €1.50 | €1.80 |
| Per day | €1.33 | €1.00 | €1.29 |
| Per GB used, if you need 4 GB | €5.00 | €3.75 | €2.25 |
The discounted plan wins per GB and per day but loses if a week needs only 4 GB: you pay for unused data. Per Airalo, the data covers the whole validity period, not each day (checked 10 October 2026). Estimate yours: guide to how much travel data you need.
2. When does the clock start, and how long can the eSIM sit unused?
At Airalo, validity usually starts at the first network connection, for some packages at installation. Holafly counts daily and Trip eSIMs from connection at the destination, while subscription plans may bill from purchase (both checked 10 October 2026).
Airalo sets a purchase-to-use window, "often" 90 days depending on the package, with "in use" meaning connected, not just installed. Simbye says an unactivated eSIM stays valid for 180 days (both checked 10 October 2026). More: when to activate an eSIM abroad.
3. Does it cover where you're going?
The UK isn't covered by "Roam like at Home" and Switzerland isn't on the list. A plan called "Europe" needn't include either: the country list in the plan details decides. For the UK: eSIM options after Brexit.
4. What does the small print say about refunds?
Simbye's policy (as of 15 September 2026) refunds in full if the eSIM was never installed or activated and no data was used. Holafly takes requests up to six months after purchase and refunds fully or partly, depending on usage (as of 5 February 2026).
An eSIM discount code brings its own rules, as expired Black Friday promotions show. Holafly gave the third eSIM free when you bought three (24 November to 2 December 2025), with a one-year activation deadline; refunding one voided the deal. Airalo offered 15% off in 2024 (28 November to 3 December), capped at 7 US dollars, once per person, first 10,000 redemptions.
5. Is an annual plan worth it?
Worked example, not an offer, for a single 12-month plan: 20 GB for €60 covers four 5 GB trips. That only pays off once a 5 GB single plan costs more than €15 (60 ÷ 4 = 15). With a fixed-volume plan, the data is one shared pool for all trips.
Black Friday eSIM deals at Airalo, Holafly or Saily?
Whether Airalo, Holafly or Saily run November promotions shows on their own pages once published. Run the five checks on them.
